When are you most secure and at your best, both personally and professionally?

  1. The thing that I am mostly secure about is my communication skills and that are both professionally and personally. The reason is why I always have problem younger with communication. To the point that I took classes.Being able to speak in class is one of the pressures in school I have the fear that what I say would not make sense to people or I have to repeat myself or explain even more. For my college experience I am looking forward to changing it.

    1. The ability to communicate effectively is crucial in life, and you will both learn and practice this skill quite a bit in college. Thanks for the thoughtful post.

  2. The skill that i feel the most secure and at my best is my programming abilities. Whenever I am programming, I am able to talk the most confident about what I am doing with whoever I am programming with. I have been programming for 5 years and throughout those years I have learned enough to feel confident in OO programming concepts; Enough to have discussions where I don't feel lost like I have felt in the best.

    1. Programming is a fun and exciting way to interact with computers. You've probably experienced the rewarding feeling of having solved a problem by debugging a program - this is one of the reasons why I enjoyed scientific programming so much (when I was in college and grad school). Which languages are you most comfortable in? One way to push your boundaries is to learn a new language. Thanks for the engaging post.

  3. I feel the most secure whenever I am singing and/or listening to music. Although it is just a hobby of mine, singing helps me feel calm whenever I'm stressed out or upset. Sometimes, I have a tendency to think of the worst things that can possibly happen in a given situation, weather it be when I'm driving, when I'm out somewhere by myself, or even when I'm rushing to get my assignments done after days of procrastination. During these times, singing and/or listening to music helps me get my mind off of the bad thoughts that seemingly like to pop up in my head out of nowhere. Sometimes music even helps me to think in a more productive manner, which really helps me to get things done.

    1. Researchers have found many reasons why music has such a strong effect on us. It's great that you can use it as a tool to de-stress and clarify your thought process. I am a (very) amateur violinist, and I find that music engages a part of my brain that nothing else does. Thanks for bringing the power of music to our attention in your post.

  4. I am the most secure and at my best both personally and professionally, when I am confident in what I am doing and when I am familiar with what I am doing. When I know what I am doing or I am doing something I am familiar with, I tend to be less nervous and more open about the situation. I am also secure and at my best when I am around people I know or have been around for quite sometime.

    1. It's great that you can identify the comfort level you feel in familiar situations and with familiar people. To really grow, we all need to push our boundaries by going beyond the familiar and out of our comfort zone. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

  7. I feel like I am most secure and at my best while watching movies or shows. Sure it might be a little unorthodox, but whenever I seem to over complicate or stress over an assignment, having a movie play in the background helps to calm me down and to keep relaxed. Some of my best works has come from me watching films from Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, etc. I also feel that having something playing in the background helps brig out my creative side while working on an assignment.

  8. I feel that I am most secure and at my best when I have some quiet time. The reason I say this and I know its kind of cliche, but when I have time to explore my options and think them though I believe that I work though a problem faster. I have had multiple times when I have left a room for a period of time when I have an assignment due or I have to think of an idea or a solution for a project in the quiet of the hall or any place where I wont be disturbed.
