8/23/16 (Day 2): Blog question, option 1

Who is your hero or heroine in life and why?

  1. Up until my freshman year of high school I entertained the idea that heroes do not exist. But, once I learned about Elon Musk, my definition of a hero significantly changed. The traditional hero consists of a person with great ability or aptitude for justice. Although I do believe a hero should be moral, they should not be held to a standard of perfection. Everyday heroes are not only heroes but also human beings. As Elon Musk displays, human beings and heroes are subject to shortcomings and failure.
Elon Musk is an audacious entrepreneur that, in particular, wishes to send humans to mars. His investment in space travel has not ran perfectly, with quite a few major failures such as many test rockets crashing or failing to launch.
I remember watching a “60 Minutes” interview with Elon after a failed rocket launch in which he struggled to hold back his tears. The interviewer had just asked him how he felt regarding denunciation of his work by prominent space travel figures, such as Neil Armstrong. A few months later, Elon Musk successfully landed a test rocket intact, which paves the way for significantly reducing the cost of space travel since they are able to reuse the majority of the rocket. Elon Musk overcame adversity thru determination, making him my hero.

  2. My hero is Uthman ibn affan a follower of of the prophet Muhammad and a leader when he passed away. I try to follow in the footsteps of this great man because he has so many virtues that i wish to instill in to my self. In his time before Islam he was a wealthy merchant who abstained from sin and was known to be and honest and friendly person . After Islam he was much the same and when ever there was a time for donations he would be the first to give i the service of Islam. When the prophet Mohammed passed away and the two kalifahs passed he was granted the position of kalifah, he ruled justly until he was assassinated. He was exceptionally modest where there was a remark by the prophet where he stated" It is hard not to feel shy in front of Uthman when even the angels are shy before him". This is the man I strive to become.

  3. With all the many influential people I’ve come into contact with throughout my life, I would have to say my heroine is my mother. She was born in England and moved to the United States at the age of six. Her mother stayed at home to take care of the children and her step father was an officer of the United States Air Force. My mother grew up much less fortunate than I have, her family struggled with hardship living in a low income area. Throughout high school she was able to connect with many social groups while participating is sports, the high school band and maintaining exceptional grades. After high school she continued her education commuting to the College of New Jersey where she continued to succeed. My mother worked a job off campus in order to pay for her education, as her parents didn’t have enough money to help her. She maintained her grades while working as much as she could in order to have the advantage of higher education. Today my mother, Melanie, is an established professional in her field and extremely looked up to by many of her peers. She has worked so vigorously all her life to be able to give to me, her child, the opportunities that she never had. Not only is my mother my heroine but she is my best friend and someone who I have the utmost respect for and gratitude towards.

  4. The heroine in my life is and has always been my mom. My mom is my heroine because she has sacrificed and has done so much for my sister and I.A heroine is a woman idealized for her courage and outstanding achievements, and in my eyes my mother fits that definition perfectly. My mother has worked hard all her life to make sure my sister and I have a good life. She would do anything for me and I would do anything for her. She is my heroine and always will be.

  5. Steve Jobs has always been a hero to me because he is the perfect example of how the American dream is achievable though hard work and dedication. After dropping out of college, Jobs created Apple, a multi-billion dollar company, in his garage. After the company tried to seize Jobs's control over the company, he resigned and went on to create another multi-billion dollar company called Pixar and another smaller company named NeXT. Shortly after, Apple bought NeXT and Steve Jobs reclaimed his role as CEO. This led him to create to create the iPhone and iPad which we all know and love today. But he is not my hero for doing all these great things. Steve Jobs is my hero because he always loved what he was doing. one of my favorite quotes of his is "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle." Steve Jobs has inspired me to do what I love and if i'm even a fraction as successful as he was I will be happy.

  7. A person that I consider hero in my life is my Father. My father came to this country with nothing and had no money. He was young and didn't know anything about the United States of America. I consider my father a hero because if he didn't take the risk to leave Pakistan for a better opportunity, I wouldn't be in College. I am forever grateful to my father, he has done so much for me and my family. My father is the only person I look up to, he is absolutely amazing.

  8. I would have to say that not one person is my hero but multiple people. I look up to both my parents of course, for working as hard as they do, and as hard of they have, for me to have a good life, and for helping me make something of myself. But moving away from family I would have to say many different bodybuilders are my heroes. One of them died recently (Rich Piana), and I would give it to all of them because they are living proof, physical proof, that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. They spend hours and hours working up a sweat in the gym to develop the bodies they have, and that requires so much dedication, and even patience. This tells me, and has told me for a long time that if you invest yourself into achieving your goal's, it will happen.
