What or who influenced you toward the direction of your major and why?

  1. Since I was in preschool, I had an extreme fascination for animals and plants. As I grew, my interest in "life science" grew along with me. This interest later on spread into health related topics as well. Eventually, when I noticed my passion for biology and health, I decided that I wanted to peruse a carrier path that had to do with these interests.

One day, when I went to get my annual checkup, I noticed how busy my pediatrician seemed to be. She was rushing around from room to room trying to help out all of her patients as quickly and efficiently as she could. Seeing this, I really wished there was some way for me to help out, even though I didn't have the education required to do so. Because of this, I decided to pursue the carrier path of a physician assistant where I could help both doctors and patients while still working in a field that has to do with health and biology.

  2. What pretty much influenced me to major in education and become a teacher is when I was younger. When I was younger I always wanted to learn new things because I found it fascinating. My mom would tell me to read and write everyday and I always looked forward to it. As I got older my mother asked me what do I want to be when I grow up. I told her I wanted to be a teacher. When she asked why I explained to her that I love to help kids. I told her that I wanted to do what she had me do when I was younger because if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be the person I was today. I know what your thinking. Was your mother a teacher? No, my mother was not a teacher but she opened my eyes to the career that I want to take part in.
Me being a teacher also comes from the fact that I looked up to a majority of my teachers as a kid. My teachers were some of the kindest people I've met when I was a kid. They helped me when I when I was down and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here either. So that's what persuaded me to major in education and in the future I want to the same.

  3. When I was younger I always had a desire to go into my major that I am currently about to study in. I was influenced by my father to go into this field of business because in his career paths he also was involved with businesses. The idea of having a spot of authority and managing others attracts me. There are many successful and top notch jobs that are available with my major and those jobs are what I look to be in. In business their is a lot of decision making, critical thinking, judging etc. and all of these characteristics I believe I can learn, and take in to become a successful business woman.

  4. What pushed me towards my major was complete luck. I was failing photography because I couldn’t get a camera, which is to be expected. I requested to change out of the class so I wouldn’t be failing and the only class available was a class called Visual Basic. I didn’t understand anything in Visual Basic when I joined; I didn’t even know that coding existed. Since I was falling behind, I decided to stay after and try to figure out why I had no idea what the teacher was talking about the whole class. My teacher started teaching me what code was and how it controls the computer. For some reason, this was like magic to me and I was enthralled by the endless possibilities coding offered. I stayed and coded for about 4 hours before the teacher told me she was leaving and I should go. I complied but she must have noticed how torn I was to have to leave; Leading her to allow me to stay. I ended up staying until 10 P.M. before my mom decided she needed to get me. I did this every single day until I finally got myself a computer. Ever since then I have been obsessively learning everything I could. As soon as I was satisfied with what I had accomplished, I would immediately feel empty and see what else there was to offer. From design patterns to data structures to interweaving native methods to anything new, I needed to learn it. It is the immense amount of information that keeps me going and I want to continue to learn every single thing I can with programming, and that is what pushes me towards the Computer Science and math majors.

  5. What influenced me to move towards my major as a computer scientist was video games and youtube. As a kid I loved video games and grew up with them, it was one of the ways I pasted time since I wasn’t taken outside very often as a child. Then I was given a computer and discovered youtube, I watched a bunch of gaming channels and as I got older I started getting interested in how games were developed. I started watching tech channels, it was on how games were developed and how programs work with hardware.

  6. The thing that most influenced me to pursue my major in architecture was a family trip to Washington D.C. During this trip, while my family went on tours of the monuments, I walked around the city near them, and observed what was around me. Seeing the art that was the buildings of the city and how each one worked with the other, managing to still stand out on their own artistically, while simultaneously radiating a sense of dignity and purpose is what influenced me the most heavily.

  8. For me I had no clue what i wanted to major in.Throughout my childhood i wanted to be a veterinarian, a chef, or a police officer. All my friends knew what they wanted to be but not me, I had no clue at all. Then one day it finally hit me what i wanted to study later on in college. I realized that i wanted to study biology and become a physical therapist. The reason being that I wanna study this is because during soccer season i would always get injured and I had to go to physical therapy. I usually got hurt lot so I went to therapy a titanic amount of times. Every time I went it would catch my attention and interest a lot about what they did. The lady who helped me out a lot during therapy she would say how an amazing job this was. Each day I went for therapy, she would tell me a story and honestly each story was amazing that it had me memorized. So since those days I just got intrigued in wanting to study biology and becoming a physical therapist.

  9. When I used to do competitive dance, I was asked to become an assistant to one of the teachers. She taught ages 2-13. I enjoyed working with her and with all of the children. Due to wanting to learn more about I should work with them, I decided to take a Child development course within my high school. There I learned a vast amount of information that could help me. While I was part of the program, we managed and taught our own preschool. Seeing the effort put by my instructors of this course inspired me to continue and gain more knowledge. Along with the fact that I love working with younger children, I wanted to find a way to continue to use the knowledge given to me by them in a way that would make them proud.
