Besides from an education I hope to gain three things. People skills, the chance to work under pressure and to be exposed to different things and activities. Going to college means meeting new people and from what I heard from the orientation these friends will probably stay with you for a long time. I've also heard that college is a different ball game than high school. You have to work harder because it's for your future and you can't get by with a C or D. Lastly college is a place where you can find things that suit you. To try out for an internship to joining clubs and to just simply have fun. So that's what I hope to gain from college.
Those are three really important life skills that you mention. I believe that your experiences at Kean will enhance all of the capacities you already have and encourage you to grow. Thanks for a thoughtful post.
To better my college experience here at Kean University, improving my critical thinking skills is an important asset that I believe in my major can help better me in further success. Learning to better take in material that I am being taught and actually maintain and understand it to the fullest will have a greater impact on me. Rather then learning information and forgetting about it after. Critical thinking will help me outside of my education because when I later go off into my field to work I can use this resource in my major to use when I'm approaching any situation.
Critical thinking is truly an important skill, and you're right: the ability to use that skill as a resource in any situation you encounter is of great benefit to you. Thank you for posting!
I believe that college is not only an opportunity to learn, but also to improve yourself. Education is important although it is not entirely just reading and understanding book-work. It is being able to help and help yourself. You are able to make progress in your life journey by networking, communication, and being proactive. College is a great opportunity to start getting involved and become an integral party of the community. I hope to gain an invaluable experience that will help me throughout my future.
You could even interpret the ability to help and help yourself in the context of teaching yourself anything - which is a wonderful asset to have in the life. All of the other skills you mentioned - networking, communication and proactivity - are useful personal attributes. Thanks for a nice post.
Other than an education, my main goal is to put myself in an environment where I can better myself as an individual. Gaining useful advice from peers, and putting the knowledge I have gained into practice is another one of these goals. Challenging myself, not only as a student, but as a person, is my main endeavor, and presenting myself with challenges such as networking, and communicating to work effectively with a team is something that I not only understand as fundamental to have a successful career, but also as fundamental for a successful person who strives to be more.
Teamwork is extremely valuable, and the Kean educational setting is a great place to enhance the background you may already have. Thanks for identifying such a useful life skill in your post.
What I hope to gain from college other than education is the experience of being on your own. Being here and planning out your life and learning how to really manage your time. This is an essential skill that everyone needs for life in general, it will help you succeed in life. I believe that dorming here in college will help me be able learn how to manage my time and succeed in the real world.
You have identified another very useful experience and skill: time management. We all struggle with this (yes, even teachers), and I look forward to hearing any suggestions you may have. Thanks for your post.
Aside from an education, I hope to gain a network of individuals who can assist me in broadening my career path. As highlighted in today's introduction to the RAM Program, networking and networking skills are exceedingly important in building your career throughout as well as, after college. There were a number of examples presented today where networking has played an enormous role in constructing someone’s career. For this reason, the RAM program gives me an exceptional opportunity to do so and an advantage over many, if not all, of my classmates not involved. I aspire to find individuals within and outside of my major who can help me bring my projects and my goals to life.
Networking is such a crucial skill to have these days, and your assertion that it is beneficial to a building a career is quite true. In fact, I myself have gotten jobs through networking. We will discuss social networking in class this week. Thanks for a really thoughtful post.
Besides getting an education, there are an amalgam of outcomes I hope to gain from going to college. But overall I just hope to be a better person. I hope I have some experiences that can help me discover who I really am. That from these experiences it could help me later on in life. Throughout college I gain to hope the skills to better express and effectively communicate my thoughts. But in all reality I just hope to make the best out of college and to make myself a better person overall.
I agree that self-discovery is an important part of the college experience. It is a process that is often overlooked and underrated. Thanks for bringing this to our attention with your post.
Even though I am mostly here for education, I’m hoping on gaining more self-management skills. I understand that in the ‘real world’ I will need to use those kinds of skills every day. It could range from getting to work on time to making sure that I have time to do my household chores. Learning how to do those will help me survive when I leave college and start my new life as a full-fledged adult.
"Self-management" skills are tremendously important in life, and that's a great way to describe them. College is also a good time to hone those skills and turn them into a way of life. Thanks for a very practical post.
Besides an education, I hope to gain self Independence and self reliance. I aspire to be a better person, a better man, and a better individual. College is the new chapter in my life, in this chapter I know I will grow and change. In college I also want to have new experiences and new outlook on life. I hope to succeed in college and life after. Last but not least making new friends and having fun in college are also priorities during my Kean experience.
